Not only used by Hollywood, Vienna's underground is a vital part of the city's infrastructure and one of Europe's most modern. First opened in the late 1970s, Vienna's underground rail system now consists of five (soon to be six) lines and forms the core of the city's public transport system. An annual ticket costing €365 was purchased by more than 800,000 people in 2019.
