Surprises |

Vienna is full of surprises. Friedenreich Hundertwasser's
famous public
housing project (photo) was a reaction to the post-war
housing blocks. No straight
lines, individual window
design, colour and
trees on the roof were some of the
ideas the Austrian architect, artist and environmentalist
incorporated into his plans.
The City of Vienna is Europe's biggest public landlord owning
220,000 flats in the city (a quarter of all Viennese apartments).
Fifty-two of them are found here on the corner of Kegelgasse/Löwengasse
in Vienna's 3rd district.
Vienna is a city of art in
public spaces, art in the public
domain.

"No person who is not a great
sculptor or painter can be an architect.
If he is not a sculptor or painter, he can only be a builder."
